Flathead Classic 2025 Confirmed — Thanks to an Incredible Community Effort

The Gold Coast Flathead Classic is officially locked in for 2025!

After weeks of uncertainty, a wave of support from anglers, sponsors, and the wider community has ensured that Australia’s most iconic catch-and-release fishing tournament will go ahead as planned from September 30 - October 3, 2025.

Since the release of a community update video campaign, 50 new teams have signed up, pushing total registrations within reach of the 200-team target required to run the event. With just 40 more team spots needed, the committee has made the call to proceed — and spirits are high.

“We’re blown away by the response,” said the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club committee. “The way the community rallied behind this event has been nothing short of amazing. It’s a clear message that the Classic means something to so many people.”

In addition to the surge in team entries, a number of key sponsors have come forward to help cover essential event costs — another critical piece in making the 2025 Classic a reality.

To celebrate, the event has extended its guaranteed shirt sizing window by five days, thanks to apparel partner Switchbait. Anglers who register their teams before the new cutoff of August 5 will receive the right-sized custom tournament shirts in their team bags.

Also up for grabs: two lucky winners will score a one-on-one fishing session with either Doug Burt or Bo Sawyer, thanks to Doug Burt’s Tackle World Gold Coast and S-Tackle. All registered teams are automatically in the draw.
